Latest Oculus Unity Integration Expands HTC Vive Support, Improves Rift GPU Performance

Last month, Facebook added basic support for HTC Vive to the Oculus Unity Integration. The Rift’s GPU performance improvement in Unity apps has been achieved by making the occlusion mesh culling “more aggressive” This should free up some GPU time for rendering. The latest feature of Oculus Integration to support the HTC Vive (and in theory any SteamVR headet) is OVROverlay. OVROverlay is the way to do this in Unity. Oculus Unity Profiler.

Oculus Unity Plugin Adds Windows MR Support Via SteamVR

Developers of Oculus Rift games made with the Oculus Unity plugin can now add Windows MR headset support with their existing code. Facebook first added SteamVR support to the Oculus Unity Integration back in November. Until now this cross-platform support has been limited to the HTC Vive. Like with the HTC Vive support this has no direct user facing consequences. Oculus Store games still can only have Oculus API support ticked in Unity.

Tomorrow Unity plans to launch the first experimental build of EditorVR, a component of the Unity game engine which will let developers build games within virtual reality.
