Amazon will soon begin selling VR apps on its massive digital marketplace through a new partnership with HTC. While Steam generally functions as the Vive’s defacto app store, HTC runs its own VR app store called Viveport. In addition, consumers will have a new way to discover and purchase titles on Amazon.

This night I woke up at 3am to participate in HTC Vive’s event on ENGAGE because I read that it was an “HTC VIVE LAUNCH EVENT” and I was super-confident in the launch of the Cosmos XR or at least of the Cosmos Play. Some of these key players, like ENGAGE, are companies in which HTC already invests into.

HTC is donating over 110 HTC Vive systems to California and Nevada libraries through its new Vive Libraries Program, an effort to seed local communities with premium VR. ” In California alone, HTC has donated 100 Vive headsets to public libraries. For those that pre-ordered the Vive Pro when orders opened up on Vive.com and Amazon , your headset is almost on its way — shipping April 5th. The HTC Vive Pro is an upgrade of the original Vive, which saw its price drop from $599 to $499 when then the Vive Pro pricing was announced. But at the same time, its not for everyone.

If you’re looking to do roomscale with the Oculus Rift then you’ll need much more than the headset itself, and Amazon is offering a great bundle to get you up to speed. Placing a third sensor behind you rectifies this issue, though presents its own challenge in being connected to the PC running VR.

Outside of a few game announcement presentations, it doesn’t look like the company has focused heavily on marketing the headset over the last six months, nor has it announced any major new native VR titles coming to the headset. Signals from Amazon suggest Quest 2 may have outsold Quest 3 nearly 3:1, if not more.
