When in 2015 I had my first Samsung Gear VR, I was amazed: finally, I could enjoy high-quality tether-less virtual reality. But now, these days are over and while the standalone headsets like Vive Focus and Oculus Go are rising, the mobile headsets are becoming always more something of the past. Google is finally bringing the official YouTube VR app to the Oculus Store for Samsung Gear VR soon. Google also announced a new social feature coming alongside the Gear VR app which will allow you to chat with friends while watching videos. The company says it will be available on Daydream View and Gear VR.

Sadly it isn’t 3D, though when viewed in high quality, the sharp edges of the CGI environments give a better sense of depth than most other non-3D 360 videos. With it’s thoughtful direction, this is one 360 video worth watching (though your taste in music is likely to be the overriding factor here).

Amazon today announced the launch of Prime Video VR on Oculus Quest, Go, and Gear VR. In addition to bringing the entire Prime Video catalog onto the headsets, Amazon is also for the first time adding VR content to its Prime Video library. The total resolution of 3840×2160 is 2.25x the one of the Oculus Go , and being both the headsets LCD, this means that the fill factor has the same proportion. I haven’t found it super-ergonomic like the one of the Oculus Go, and also the material was a bit rough on my hand, but it was functional. Comfort. ???.
