Apple glasses are coming in 2021–2022 and they are incredibly sleek. This week, the analysts Ming-Chi Kuo has teased that Apple Glasses are coming in 2022 at the earliest (2022–2023 timeline). The rumors also talk about a headset coming in 2022 with AR/VR and another one coming in 2023 as a smartglass.

Probably, an affordable Quest 2 based on XR2 may come out in 2022. This reinforces my belief that Microsoft in 2021–2022 will add VR support to it , to fight the PSVR when the market will be riper. Oculus Quest 2 has disappeared from all Amazon EU websites. Kudos to Shachar Weis for discovering this: he told me about this news, and I have verified that it has disappeared completely from Amazon Italy and Amazon France, while some Redditors confirmed that the same holds for Amazon UK. This could be The Unity Cube 2.0.

I think that from the results of this battle, which will happen most probably in 2022, we will understand the trends that will drive the VR gaming market in all the upcoming years. Unity support for OpenXR is still in early beta , and so it’s not reliable yet to develop an OpenXR-compliant application in Unity.
