Well this is surprising; HTC has yet another new VR headset on the way, promising to make an important breakthrough for a major category of device. Sadly, there’s a reason it’s only being reported on in Japan; HTC confirmed to UploadVR that the kit is only set to release there and there aren’t plans for a wider release.

Gear VR makes it in as the third entry in the Wearable Technology category. The company did not reveal exact sales figures for the product, though no other VR headsets or games feature in the list.

HTC today announced a tether-less VR upgrade kit for its SteamVR device, made by TPCAST, one of the first of 33 companies to join the Vive X Accelerator. Microsoft at its Windows Hardware Engineering Community event (WinHEC) in Shenzhen, China, also announced a partnership with Chinese VR headset maker 3Glasses. The Rift starts at $600 while the roomscale Vive starts at $800, each of which require a PC with relatively expensive graphics cards to work right.
