Pico 4 is going to launch initially only in selected countries in Europe and Asia , so Meta can keep its leadership in the US, but the situation may change fast, so it’s better for Meta to tease a Quest 3 pretty soon. We have built great experiences on top of VRChat, which is an amazing platform, has a lot of daily users, and has good building tools, so we could just happily rely on it. Unity XR was a much safer choice. For three years, we went on creating content on VRChat, but also The Sandbox, Roblox, ENGAGE, and other similar solutions.

Regarding the glasses, I have not big hopes for true AR glasses, but I think that thanks to Facebook and Apple, finally we’ll have some important smartglasses entering the market , making the mainstream think about wearing something on their face to enjoy notifications from the phone. Unity support for OpenXR is still in early beta , and so it’s not reliable yet to develop an OpenXR-compliant application in Unity. We Unity developers have still to use the current Unity tools that make us develop once, but then build for every different platform (like the ones I describe in this article ).

In Europe, this marketing effort is just starting now, so the penetration is not that high, yet. In the USA, it is almost mainstream; in Europe, it is something for people that have some knowledge of gaming or technology; in South America, is very difficult to get a headset.
