One that you may have heard – maybe even come across on ARPost – is “digital twin.” But, what exactly does that mean? What Is a Digital Twin? A “digital twin” is a virtual version of something that also exists as a physical object.

Due out in just two weeks, Red Matter 2 is promising to up the ante over its already well regarded predecessor, this time being built from the ground up to look as good as possible on Quest 2. We got to sample the game to see how it’s shaping up ahead of release. Developer Vertical Robot has boldly claimed that Red Matter 2 will be the best looking (realistically styled) game on Quest 2, and as we’ve played so far they appear to be well on track to make that a reality.

Another DLC release is coming to Real VR Fishing — this time, it’s set in Japan. Announced this week, the first installment of the Japan DLC will release for the Quest platform on August 18. The developers told UploadVR the paid content will include 10 new fishing spots for players to explore along with 58 new fish species to reel in. The Japan DLC follows on from the US West DLC, which released late last year.

The Creative Artists Agency (CAA) announced it hired XR Veteran Joanna Popper as its Chief Metaverse Officer to explore digital technologies, Variety Magazine reported on Thursday. The former Hewlett Packard executive aims to expand the CAA’s portfolio of emerging technologies, including virtual, augmented, and mixed reality (VR/AR/MR), blockchain, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), among others, for some of the largest filming, advertising, and television studios.

Quest’s v43 software update has already rolled out on the Public Test Channel, however now it seems Meta is getting ready to unlock a number of long overdue video capture options, like the ability to record in 16:9 aspect ratio. Additionally, it appears some settings specific to the company’s upcoming headset Project Cambria have cropped up as well.

Another surprise launch is here just before for the weekend — Car Mechanic Simulator VR is now available for Quest 2. Car Mechanic Simulator VR released last year for PC VR on Steam with mixed reviews as of this writing. Now the title has made its way over to Quest 2 with early reviews there faring poorly as well due in part to complaints about the game’s low resolution.

The United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) has begun expanding its list of equipment for military staff by approving the use of Eolian Augmented Reality Tactical Assault Kits (ARTAK), Shepherd reported on Friday. The US Department of Defense (US DoD) launched its Pilot Program to Accelerate the Procurement and Fielding of Innovative Technologies (APFIT) to provide the AR kit to military staff, allowing soldiers to cut the risk of injury or attack while on missions, the report read.
