There’s never been a better time to be a VR gamer. Meta just wrapped its 2023 Quest Showcase, during which the company revealed a number of exciting announcements regarding its lineup of VR games and apps for the Quest platform. This year the company teased everything from an official VR game based on the critically-acclaimed Assassin’s Creed series to major updates coming soon to existing games.

My first day at AWE has just finished, and while I’m sleepy because of jet lag, let me tell you my highlights of the day! Today the showroom was closed, so it was mostly about networking and random demos of devices. The opening Ori Inbar kickstarted AWE 2023 with a great keynote. Kudos to him for the preparation of everything: his speech was motivating and fun, and there were some parts, like the dialogue between him and his holographic avatar which were unexpected surprises.

The company’s latest mainstream VR device promises better performance in a smaller package. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has officially unveiled Meta Quest 3, the latest addition to the company’s lineup of Meta Quest VR headsets. Coming this fall, Quest 3 promises a variety of improvements over 2020’s Quest 2. This includes everything from improved visuals to high-resolution colored passthrough for more realistic mixed reality experiences.

Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable was first announced by Japan-based studio UNIVRS late last year, promising to bring the anime’s high-flying action to VR for the first time. It’s coming a little later than advertised, as the game was originally slated to arrive on Quest in Summer 2023; at today’s Quest Gaming Showcase the studio says it’s now targeting a Winter 2023 release.

Mark Zuckerberg just announced Meta Quest 3, the next-generation virtual and mixed reality headset, which launches later this year. Meta just officially announced Quest 3 is shipping this fall, starting at $500 for the 128GB model. The company revealed the headset's design and key features this morning. It has a "40% slimmer optic profile", Meta's "highest resolution display yet" and a "next-gen Snapdragon chipset" with "more than twice the graphics performance." Meta confirmed Quest 3 will be sold alongside Quest 2 and Quest Pro, not yet replacing either.

Things are about to get a little stranger later this year as Meta’s Quest Gaming Showcase today included a new look at Stranger Things VR , the upcoming psychological horror title coming to major VR headsets. It’s also coming a little earlier than the Winter 2023 release date previously mentioned at last year’s debut. Stranger Things VR is being developed and published by Tender Claws, the studio behind VR titles Virtual Virtual Reality and The Under Presents.

Quest 2's price is being cut back to $300 and a future software update will increase GPU and CPU performance. Quest 2 Price Cut When revealing the $500 Quest 3 today Meta also revealed that from Sunday the 128GB Quest 2 will be cut from $400 back to $300, and the 256GB Quest 2 will be cut from $430 to $350. Quest 2 launched almost three years ago at $300 and $400 respectively, but saw a storage bump to the base model in 2021 and then the price was raised to $400 and $500 last year.

During Meta’s Quest Gaming Showcase today the company revealed the hotly awaited sequel to Asgard’s Wrath , the single-player adventure which launched on Rift in 2019. Called Agard’s Wrath 2, the game is slated to launch on Quest 2 and Quest Pro in Winter 2023. Picking up where it last left off, the sequel suddenly thrusts you into a battle with a creature from an Ancient Egypt-inspired realm.

Vertigo Games reveals The 7th Guest VR is in development, remaking Trilobyte's CD-ROM horror classic this year on Quest 2. Developed by Vertigo Studios Rotterdam, The 7th Guest VR takes us back to Henry Stauf’s haunted mansion, using volumetric video capture "to recreate the FMV (full-motion video) storytelling of the original game." Vertigo promises a fresh take on this classic point-and-click adventure, recreating the infamous mansion in full 3D with new controls.

Although we didn’t get a first look at Ubisoft’s VR take on Assassin’s Creed during Meta’s big Quest Gaming Showcase today, the studio says we should watch out next week for the full reveal. Meanwhile, today’s announcement (of an announcement) confirmed for the first time that a previous leak was true, claiming the game would indeed be called ‘Nexus’ , or rather Assassin’s Creed: Nexus VR.

Meta confirmed that Assassin's Creed Nexus VR is coming to the Quest platform this year, with a full reveal set for June 12. Toward the end of today's Meta Quest Gaming Showcase, Meta debuted an incredible teaser for the game, confirming the previously-rumored Nexus title from last year. There wasn't anything else to the teaser besides the key art and the promise of a full reveal to come during the Ubisoft Forward event on June 12.

PowerWash Simulator VR is official, bringing the hit game to Quest 2 later this year. First released two years ago on flatscreen platforms, FuturLab's successful sim now receives an official VR adaptation. Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable provided a first look in a new trailer, and it's coming to Quest 2 and Quest 3 this winter. Developed by Be The Hero and Little Witch Academia: VR Broom Racing team UNIVRS, Attack On Titan VR: Unbreakable was previously revealed in our Upload VR 2022 Winter Showcase with a Summer 2023 release window. Now delayed until Winter , UNIVRS released a new animated trailer during the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase , though no actual gameplay was revealed.
