While Facebook has yet to reveal official unit sales figures for Oculus Quest 2, various data points the company has offered, along with data from developers, has allowed us to hone in on a reasonable estimate. The last data point the company shared is that PSVR reached 5 million unit sales as of January 1st, 2020.

IDC started to collect market share data for VR and AR shipments since Q1 2016 and just reported their Q1 numbers for 2017. Not far behind Samsung is Sony with 429,000 units shipped in Q1 which represents a market share of 18.8%. In 3rd place after Samsung and Sony was HTC with the HTC Vive.

IDC (International Data Corporation) is an analyst firm that sells reports detailing its estimates of market size, market share, and unit sales of popular product categories. IDC told Bloomberg News that Sony is “ likely” to have sold only around 270,000 PSVR 2 units between launch and the end of March.

It is very interesting that because of this recall, Facebook shared some data about how many facemasks were affected : it says 4M in the United States, around 170K in Canada. Sony has sold 10M PS5 worldwide. So he said that if you want to attach to it an Oculus Quest, technically you can. In Japan, the number is around 80K.

These are pretty cool, also because the Snapdragon XR 2 is much more powerful than the 835 mounted by the Oculus Quest. Considering that this number doesn’t count the Quest users connected via Oculus Link, the actual number of VR users on Steam is even higher. Still no news on Oculus For Business program and Multiplayer SDK for Quest.
