Since its launch last year on Meta Quest 2 headsets, Meta’s social VR metaverse Horizon Worlds , has grown exponentially with new games and worlds built by the community for the community. So far we’ve seen everything from VR dance clubs and restaurants to multiplayer shooter games and everything in between.

Practice makes perfect, especially when it comes to life-saving procedures that deal with extreme edge cases like separating conjoined twins. Now a UK-Brazilian team have done just that, which is thanks to detailed planning sessions which allowed the surgical team to model and rehearse the operation in VR from two different continents. As reported by BBC News , three-year-olds Bernardo and Arthur Lima were born conjoined at the cranium, also know as craniopagus twins.

First Hand is a new demo built by Meta to introduce Quest buyers to advanced interactions built around hand tracking. The app sees players interacting with a virtual menu to construct robotic gloves that, when worn, offer superpowers somewhere between those delivered by Tony Stark’s Iron Man suit or Alyx Vance’s gravity gloves. The demo available through Meta’s App Lab program lists both Quest and Quest 2 support for hand tracking only.

London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital has assisted Brazilian surgeons in separating conjoined twins using virtual reality (VR) digital twins of the patients, it was this week. Doctors used magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computerised tomography (CT) scans of Bernando and Arthur Lima, aged three, and uploaded the visuals to VR in a three-month trial of the solution, becoming one of the world’s most difficult and complex separation processes in history.
