Oculus brands disappears. And most importantly, the Oculus brand will disappear and will just become Meta : Oculus Quest will be the Meta Quest (yes, it sounds terribly, I know). He says that “We all have a strong attachment to the Oculus brand, and this was a very difficult decision to make”, but I don’t believe him at all.

Well, if the rumor becomes reality, this would mean that all next Apple devices will have both front and back depth cameras, for high-precision Augmented Reality and 3D reconstruction. Well played Apple. And this is possible because they both have big cash cows: Oculus has Facebook’s advertisement, and Valve has the Steam game store.

It has now an agreement with Plessey, a company working on MicroLED displays, and that was previously one of the acquisition goals of the competitor Apple. Apple strikes deal for indoor maps and buys NextVR. This has been a great week for competition in the AR space since also Apple has performed some interesting moves.

In 2018 we did a case study where people were invited to use virtual reality in a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) fashion. A total of 43 persons (39 passengers and 4 cabin crew) participated in the tests in KLM’s motion base cabin simulator. For 360 video we use Oculus Go, because a Vive Index would be an overkill.

Well, some do, but most of us use Spotify, Apple Music, or Youtube, to listen to music now. Some people denigrated early efforts, like the VR headsets that HTC and Oculus produced, as a fad, comparing it to the Segway or earlier 3DTV attempts. The vinyl is more enjoyable.
