Google and Magic Leap today announced a “strategic technology partnership.” The move shows Google seeking to gain ground to keep up with the likes of Meta, Apple, and others in a race to control the AR headset market. While consume VR headsets have been around for years now, none of the world’s major technology companies have launched consumer-focused AR glasses.

Avantis will be rolling out its Eduverse products to Colarado-based school district, St. Vrain Valley Schools. In a company first, the partnership will see all 60 schools in the district provided with access to Eduverse’s library of immersive VR and AR services. Magic Leap has entered a "multi-faceted, strategic technology partnership" with Google. The companies say the partnership will combine Magic Leap's "leadership in optics and manufacturing" with Google's "technology platforms". Google was an initial investor in Magic Leap, leading a $542 million funding round back in 2014. Google CEO Sundar Pichai also joined the Magic Leap board at the time, but he stepped down in 2018, ostensibly due to his schedule being too busy.

Both are set to launch across all major VR platforms later this year. As of this writing, multiple official Quest store pages list support for "Meta Quest 3S, Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2." Boneworks (2019) , the physics-driven PC VR shooter from Stress Level Zero, isn’t a Quest-native game, but thanks to a third-party mod for Bonelab (2022), called ‘Labworks’, you can play the entire campaign on Quest—no PC required. Developed by modder ‘volx64’, Labworks now includes the entire campaign of Boneworks, which can be played in Bonelab on a Quest 2/3/Pro.

A 'PlayStation VR2 PC Adapter' was certified by South Korea's National Radio Research Agency (RRA). The RRA is South Korea's regulatory agency with responsibility over wireless frequency use, equivalent to the US FCC. As with the FCC, the RRA's approval is necessary to sell a device with wireless capabilities in that market. The licence was granted to Sony Interactive Entertainment, the subsidiary of Sony responsible for PlayStation.

Spacetop G1 replaces the screen of traditional laptops with floating virtual screens via built-in AR glasses. It's an upgraded version of the Spacetop Early Access which shipped last year to "hundreds" of early adopters. The startup behind the device, Sightful, says it will upgrade all Early Access owners to the consumer G1. Sightful was founded by ex-Magic Leap executives Tamir Berliner and Tomer Kahan.
