We’ve know that Apple planned to support WebXR for quite some time, but with VisionOS 2, the company is enabling the feature for all users. WebXR allows developers to deliver cross-platform XR experiences directly from the web, with no gatekeepers to approve or reject content. WebXR is the widely supported web standard that allows developers to deliver AR and VR content from the web.

Korean media last month alleged that the Meta/LG partnership to create a high-end XR headset wasn’t going so well , suggesting either outright cancellation or a delay pushing release of a prospective Apple Vision Pro competitor to 2027. While this hasn’t been substantiated by either company, it’s clear there’s something big going on under the surface, as LG is now shuffling employees from its XR division to other parts of the company.

As Qualcomm's exclusivity for Arm-powered processors for Windows PCs is reportedly coming to its end, other chipmakers are getting ready to offer their Arm-based system-on-chips for Windows computers. VRChat let go 30 percent of its team and promised at least 12 weeks of severance for departing staff. The CEO of VRChat, Graham Gaylor, suggested in an email posted to the company's forums that recent management changes have set up the company "for success over the next five years." "We’re in a good cash position, but to execute effectively on our five-year strategy, we need an extended runway with line of sight to profitability.

Astro Bot's upcoming PS5 sequel was "never designed" for VR, and a future PSVR 2 update seems unlikely. Revealed in May's State of Play presentation , it's no secret that many PlayStation VR2 owners were disappointed that the upcoming Astro Bot sequel would be flatscreen only after 2018's VR-only Astro Bot Rescue Mission , which hasn't been ported to PSVR 2.

The USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) introduced USB4 version 2.0 in fall 2022, and it expects systems and devices with the tech to emerge later this year and into next year. These upcoming products will largely rely on Intel's Barlow Ridge controller, a full-featured Thunderbolt 5 controller that goes above and beond the baseline USB4 v2 spec. And though extremely capable, Intel's Thunderbolt controllers are also quite expensive, and Barlow Ridge isn't expected to be any different.

Aces of Thunder, the upcoming PlayStation VR2 aerial combat sim from War Thunder's studio, offered a new look at gameplay with Soviet aircraft. Revealed in a new Aces of Thunder update on Instagram , the latest gameplay video focuses on Soviet aircraft used in World War 2's Eastern front. That includes the Yak-9 used by Yugoslav Partisans, the Yak-3 that's described as "lighter and more agile," the La-5N, and the IL-2 attack aircraft often known as the "flying tank.

HTC’s Vive Ultimate Trackers are capable of inside-out body tracking thanks to the inclusion of two on-board cameras that track its own position in space, requiring you to strap them to your elbows, feet, or hips for full-body tracking.

WebXR is enabled by default in Safari with visionOS 2. 0:00 / 0:43 1× Apple's demo of WebXR via Safari on Vision Pro. WebXR is the open standard API that enables webpages to display immersive content on headsets and support interactivity via controllers or hand tracking. WebXR experiences use WebGL for rendering, which is based on OpenGL ES. You can access WebXR apps near-instantly via the web browser like any other web app.
