Palmer Luckey, Oculus founder and creator behind the original Oculus Rift, teased an upcoming announcement that he’s working on a new XR headset. Luckey says in a post on X that he’ll be talking more about the device at Augmented World Expo (AWE), which takes place in Long Beach, California from June 18-20. Clackamas Fire District has ploughed $50K into a VR training programme for its firefighters and paramedics. The money went into purchasing virtual reality (VR) software created by the Australian company EmergiSim, with headsets costing much less by comparison that are available to buy from Amazon for $199. Recently, HaptX partnered with immersive learning solutions provider RoundTable Learning to deploy VR training to railway workers. The partners are working with BNSF to provide railway engineers with an immersive step-by-step training platform to improve engineer safety. BNSF will regularly leverage VR as part of its 2024 safety and technical training initiative.

The Quest v66 update "significantly" reduces Quest 3's passthrough distortion and warping, according to Meta. The v66 update also brings an experimental option to use wrist-mounted menu buttons instead of the pinch gestures when using hand tracking, background audio and media controls, the ability to hide apps in your library, and a new sleep mode. As always, keep in mind that Quest system software updates "roll out" gradually, so it may take a few days or even more than a week for your headset

HTC Vive announced it’s offering a new hardware bundle for its Vive XR Elite headset that brings some handy new accessories to users for free, which are designed to enhance the headset’s ergonomics and increase user comfort. Called the Vive XR Elite Deluxe Pack, the bundle includes four new accessories, which are also being offered for free to new and existing owners of the headset.

Palmer Luckey says he will announce that he's working on a new headset at AWE 2024, which is taking place June 18-20. It comes as Luckey's new company ModRetro just announced and opened preorders for Chromatic , a $200 handheld that can play Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges on a display with the same resolution and colors as the original consoles for a pixel-perfect and color-accurate experience.

Batman: Arkham Shadow is coming exclusive to Quest 3 sometime later this year, and today we’re getting a peek at the story behind what’s shaping up to be VR’s biggest full-fledged Batman game, and next big first-party exclusive from Meta. Following the release of Batman: Arkham Shadow ‘s teaser trailer in May, developers Camouflaj and Oculus Studios today revealed we’re in for an epic battle to prevent the “Day of Wrath,” set to take place on the Fourth of July.

You can watch Netflix in the web browser on Quest headsets "in the coming days". Previously, the Quest browser showed incompatibility with Netflix when trying to play a movie or TV show from the service. Since 2019, Netflix offered the poorly-reviewed native VR app on the Quest Store instead. The app lacks downloads support and is capped at 480p. Wevr, the veteran XR studio behind one of VR’s earliest and most recognizable VR demo, announced it’s now secured $3.5 million in new funding from HTC Corp. and Epic Games. It’s been almost a decade since VR enthusiasts first got a chance to don the pre-production version of HTC Vive at GDC 2015, where they likely went face-to-face with a giant blue whale in Wevr’s iconic VR demo theBlu: Whale Encounter.
