During today’s Meta (formally Facebook) Connect Keynote event, CEO Mark Zuckerberg walked us through a series of major announcements detailing how the newly branded company is building towards its vision of the metaverse. During a conversation with Reality Labs Chief Science Officer Michael Abrash, Zuckerberg asked Abrash what it was going to take to put Meta on the path to becoming a metaverse company.

Leaks in advance of Facebook Connect, particularly around the time that VIVE Flow was announced , had many anticipating new devices from Oculus. However, most of Mark Zuckerberg’s keynote consisted of pontificating on what the metaverse is, what it might look like, and how far away it is. There were announcements, mainly involving hardware and new titles and game updates in the coming year, and a new headset was announced though it won’t be here until next year at the earliest.

Meta ( formerly Facebook ) created quite a stir in the VR industry when it announced last year that it planned to require Facebook account logins for new users. The move didn’t go over well in the VR space or among critics at large. This week the company said it plans to roll-out a non-Facebook option for logging into its headsets starting next year.

Meta ( formerly Facebook ) today announced its sixth VR studio acquisition. This time it’s Within, the studio behind the popular Quest exclusive VR fitness app Supernatural. Meta announced the acquisition of Within on the Oculus blog saying that the studio will be run under Meta Reality Labs, the company’s XR organization. The price of the acquisition was not announced.

Carbon Studio was hoping to launch Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Tempestfall on PC VR and Quest sometime this summer, and it appears we at least have a release date for the PC VR version of the fantasy-action game: November 17th. The upcoming Warhammer universe game was delayed back in August, something the studio said at the time was to improve combat, progression, and rewards.
