Youtuber Brad Lynch of the channel “Sadly It’s Bradley” has discovered, thanks to “a tip”, some references to a device codenamed “Deckard” inside some SteamVR firmware files. Analyzing the references, it seems that Deckard is a standalone VR headset. Microsoft is going to release a database of synthetic faces.

VR training goes big with Accenture and Bank of America. This week we had two big news that endorsed the importance of training in virtual reality. The first comes from the major consultancy brand Accenture, which has just announced that it is going to deploy 60,000 Oculus Quest 2 headsets for the training of new employees.

The reference to the tether is a clear statement about the fact that Sony aims at offering quality, and it is not interested in the casual gamers that are the target of the Quest (for now). Or better, I can imagine who can be the names and they are all the big monoliths: Google, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon , etc… Only companies of this size could afford selling a good headset under cost and at the same time attract enough developers to publish VR games on their own new stores. Tablet mode may be a reference to how to launch 2D Android apps because a Facebook employee has inadvertently revealed that employees can already use some 2D apps like GDoc inside the Quest. They sell it for 3D inspection, but I think it could be great also to scan environments for other uses, like training, or gaming.
