This is Zuckerberg's first publicly-known trip to South Korea since 2014, when he visited Samsung to finalize the Gear VR smartphone-holder headset partnership. Samsung handled the hardware for Gear VR, Oculus Go was manufactured by Xiaomi, and Oculus Rift S was co-designed and manufactured by Lenovo.

Oculus Go was manufactured by Xiaomi, and Oculus Rift S was manufactured and co-designed by Lenovo. In both cases, the headset bore the partner company's logo on the side as well as the Oculus branding on the front. Samsung announced in February it is building a headset, with Google handling the software.

In the case of VR, we all remember the competition between HTC and Oculus in 2016, with HTC clearly winning the market until Oculus used Facebook’s money to slash the price of the Rift around 2017. This led to a growing importance of Oculus, until with the Quest it started dominating the market in a way no one was able to face.

In the years since, Google also brought YouTube VR to the Oculus Store on Samsung Gear VR in 2018 , then Oculus Go later that year , and was a launch title for the Quest Store. That may be the result of agreements long in the works though, so we'll be keeping a close eye on Pico's health through 2024.

Google is building an 'Android XR' platform to power Samsung's upcoming headset. And while Samsung may have a period of exclusivity, that almost certainly ( and reportedly ) won't last forever. Samsung's headset will reportedly be priced somewhere around $2000. Meta also lacks any real moat beyond its game studios.
