These new headsets have hybrid virtual and mixed reality features, natural interactions and come at a high price : Vision Pro costs $3500 and the Samsung headset is rumored to be around $2000.

In the case of VR, we all remember the competition between HTC and Oculus in 2016, with HTC clearly winning the market until Oculus used Facebook’s money to slash the price of the Rift around 2017. This led to a growing importance of Oculus, until with the Quest it started dominating the market in a way no one was able to face.

A report this week shows how these changes have been quite important: The first version of the “Project Nazare” glasses will be still released in 2024 as originally planned, but it will be targeted only at developers (a bit like today’s Snap Spectacles). Only the second edition in 2026 will be actually released to the market.

Microsoft and Samsung may be partnering for an AR device. According to Korean media, Samsung Electronics is working with Microsoft on a new augmented/mixed reality project “involving HoloLens”. Samsung is one of the most famous suppliers of components for electronic devices (e.g. Samsung Odyssey+).
