Speaking with Upload VR, HTC VIVE EMEA General Manager Graham Wheeler has predicted for 2021 the rise of all-in-two devices, that is lightweight viewers that are connected to smartphones (or also PCs sometimes). But this news is interesting because it shows HTC’s views on the topic.

China is spearheading the research on health, and one such study caught our attention as estimates show that over a million VR headsets are being shipped each month (in China alone). Study Results. Out of 50 pupils, only one reported negative effect, showing subjective displeasure with the application selected for the study.

We already saw this problem happening when HTC departed from the Steam platform to build its Viveport store because hardware sales were not enough to have an ambitious business. The study is about the proper simulation of hand haptics for when in a game we are falling down a cliff and we are trying to stop the fall.

Our recent studies showed that advanced VR devices like the Vive actually produce about half as much eye strain as looking at phones or tablets (phone based VR solutions did not produce similar results). The wonderful Vive Pro made by HTC: it should be safe for 8-12 yo kids. Hope to have more to share there soon.

In a future update, Meta will use the tracking cameras to track the full body of the user and provide a decent estimation of the pose of the torso, the elbows, and the arms, and a simulated pose for the legs. There is a lot of hype around this technology, and many research groups are studying its applications, also for XR.
