Facebook today announced at F8, their annual developer conference, that pre-orders for Oculus Rift S are now officially live. Last Oculus Quest update shows hints of an Oculus MR ecosystem. Facebook is continuously updating the Oculus Quest , its most successful device, and this week it has rolled out the runtime v16. I think that this update, together with the last ones, marks the beginning of a mixed reality ecosystem that is being built by Oculus.

Qualcomm releases XR2 5G reference design. Qualcomm has finally released the reference design for AR/VR headsets based on the XR2 chipset (a special version of the Snapdragon 865 for XR headsets), and it will pave the way for the standalone headsets of the future. So at least the collaboration with Valve is true, but notice that it has not been on the headset, so they got no reference design from Valve, it has just been on the software integration. While Oculus is getting all the glory for the Quest, its competitors are not sleeping. We’re excited to try this headset when it becomes available.

Oculus brands disappears. And most importantly, the Oculus brand will disappear and will just become Meta : Oculus Quest will be the Meta Quest (yes, it sounds terribly, I know).
