Editor's Note: Amanda Watson joined Oculus VR in 2015 and took a cubicle outside John Carmack's office in Dallas where she worked late nights on the mobile SDK. Later in California, she worked on Oculus Link and Air Link before leaving Oculus in 2022. But not Oculus. In early 2024, Watson released CitraVR on Github.

While E3 2019 may officially be in the books, it appears as though Sony is only just getting started. Originally released on SteamVR and Oculus this past April, Vacation Simulator arrives on PlayStation VR tomorrow ( June 18th ). This week is shaping up to be a busy one for console VR. These are huge numbers for VR: if you look at the most recent SteamVR survey, you get that Oculus headsets are now at 67% of the whole PCVR market. Some magazines reported this news as a sign of the failure of Meta’s strategy about the metaverse. Sony acquires Bungie and thinks about Capcom. It’s basically a monopoly.

Anyway, he confirmed that the first smart glasses that will be released this year won’t have true AR and said that now Oculus wants to expand beyond the gaming ecosystem. Finally, next month’s update of the Oculus Quest 2 will bring with it the possibility of using multiple accounts on the same device. News worth a mention.

Sony renews our faith in PSVR with a slew of new experiences coming soon. Sony’s PlayStation Media Showcase at Paris Games Week has officially come and gone leaving audiences thirsty for a bounty of newly-revealed games. Any game that allows me live my dream of captaining a airship pirate vessel is ok in my book.

Of course, they are not meant for XR playing, but for e-book reading. The idea is to let people read books when lying down on a bed without having to keep a tablet or e-book reader in their hands. Sol Readers is going to cost around $350 and is of course targeted at people that love reading books.

This week Sony has showcased the new DualShock controller for the PS5, dubbed DualSens. PSVR2 will surely have its dedicated controllers, but since Sony is trying to guarantee retro-compatibility of games (especially gems like AstroBot), this headset should also be able to work with the DualSens controller.
