Another leak regarded the release date: an Amazon listing put the availability date of the Quest 3 starting from October, 10th. That’s fantastic news for all Unity XR developers! This can be a placeholder date (10/10), but it would be quite unusual as a choice, so it is probable that this is the actual launch date. in the reviews!

Considering the leaks on Amazon and MediaMarkt, the device will probably be available starting from October, 10th, 2023. There are some moments in which looking in front of me with this device, I have the impression that what I see is real, and I lose totally myself in virtual reality for some seconds: this tells you how much the visuals of Pico Neo 3 are good. I have found no way to use hand tracking or passthrough AR in the SDK documentation.

Amazon promises “single-digit latency” XR streaming. Amazon has announced some weeks ago “Wavelength”, a new offering of its AWS services, that should provide “single-digit latency” over 5G networks. The most interesting ones for me are related to hand tacking. Meta Quest will receive Hand Tracking 2.2, which makes the hand tracking more responsive to fast movements of hands : the system can so track the hands also when the user is playing fitness games like FitXR (or HitMotion: Reloaded).

Amazon and Tesla could be two outsider of the XR ecosystem instead. VR technology is still not ready today to fulfill this need. 2022 could be the key year for XR.

If you are a Unity/UE developer, you may have issues with Quest developing at this moment after the update , because when you build the app, you may see only one controller, or the controllers behaving in a weird way.
