This would be pretty disruptive, because up to now every standalone headset has been a walled garden with its own store and hardware, with the only exception being HTC trying to distribute its Viveport store to some other Chinese devices. Basically, Google could try to be for standalone devices what Steam has been for the PC VR ones.

The damn coronavirus continues to impact all our lives: the fact that many countries are applying restrictions on flights to and from Italy is, for example, creating various nuisances to my job. The only company not much affected by it is HTC, that manufacturers its headsets in Taiwan and not in Mainland China.

Sure Quest 3 will dynamically adjust its exposure when you get near a bright light source, so that for example screens are temporarily visible, but Vision Pro doesn't have to. It's an example of how Apple Vision Pro was optimized for stationary seated use, not active movement. The main form is hand and arm occlusion.

Vive Focus 3 has an expensive cooling system that can keep the Snapdragon XR2 cold enough to perform its operations at the best temperatures (Image by HTC Vive). This is great news for us developers, because it means we can develop a VR app for Quest, Pico, and Focus using exactly the same SDK provided by Unity! Production quality.
