So (a bit late) here you are a list of some of the most relevant XR trends to follow in 2024, with some predictions of what to expect next. Tethered VR will stay as a niche Hero view of PSVR 2 (Image by Sony Interactive Entertainment) Tethered VR has been superseded by standalone VR: there are many more standalone VR users than PC VR ones.

It is not the first time Meta partnered with an external company for a new device and in most cases this choice paid off: both the Gear VR (Samsung) and the Oculus Go (Xiaomi) were pretty good products.

In the case of VR, we all remember the competition between HTC and Oculus in 2016, with HTC clearly winning the market until Oculus used Facebook’s money to slash the price of the Rift around 2017. This led to a growing importance of Oculus, until with the Quest it started dominating the market in a way no one was able to face.

Oculus Go was manufactured by Xiaomi, and Oculus Rift S was manufactured and co-designed by Lenovo. In both cases, the headset bore the partner company's logo on the side as well as the Oculus branding on the front. How LG's branding will appear on the reported 2025 headset is not yet known.
