These days I’m carrying on some experiments with XR and other technologies. Another example could be an educational experience that trains the user in doing something (e.g. Laser Dance is a pretty cool concept, IMHO We could unlock a new type of creativity and enthusiasm in our space, and make the whole technology evolve faster.

I had a chance to catch up with the lead designer of Manus VR , Stijn Stumpel , at GDC where we compared Manus VR to Leap Motion, talked about how the flex sensors work, the use cases where having tracked hands makes sense, their extremely polished demo called Pillow’s Willow, and where they’re going in the future.

You probably have heard about Leap Motion’s Project North Star , that should be able to offer people affordable augmented reality. Notice a Leap Motion sensor installed on top of it. Project North Star is an opensource augmented reality headset that Leap Motion has designed and gifted to the community.

According to the very famous market analysis company Gartner, Augmented Reality is no more an “emerging” technology, but it has graduated as a mature one. This meant that for Gartner, VR was not an emerging and experimental technology anymore, but it had already become something usable and useful. Gartner Hype Cycle 2019.

The technology approximates the shape of your hand and creates a set of 3D points to accurately represent your hand and finger movement in VR. To demonstrate how this technology works, Facebook offered a hands-on demo for attendees to try out using their VR game Elixir at the Oculus Connect 6 demo area. .
