I think the battle with Apple has just begun. Because most VR developers know well Unity or Unreal, and WebVR languages like A-frame are based on Javascript, that is very different from the usual programming flow of the game engines. In fact, when queried about what are the models that Unity is using for its AI technology, the only answer that journalists got was that Unity was using 3rd-party services for integrating its AI offerings.
