Oculus Quest 2 has disappeared from all Amazon EU websites. Kudos to Shachar Weis for discovering this: he told me about this news, and I have verified that it has disappeared completely from Amazon Italy and Amazon France, while some Redditors confirmed that the same holds for Amazon UK. This could be The Unity Cube 2.0.

All the features of the proposed AR glasses are very similar to the ones already present in the market, like Nreal glasses.

So, it is not something for the present, but more for the future. Internal iOS 13 code seems to point at Apple AR glasses. It is not a secret that Apple is working on a pair of AR glasses (even if someone still thinks that the project has been abandoned). What we don’t know is what Apple is creating and when it will be released.

From time to time, I like to look at the adoption graph of XR shown by John Riccitiello (the CEO of Unity) in 2017 , where you can see that the real acceleration of immersive technologies should start around 2022-2023. 5G will be the future, but not the present. This week has been pretty crazy: It all started with Facebook approving my silly The Unity Cube application (an application with just a cube) on App Lab. The stocks of the headset are becoming empty on its main stores (Oculus website, Lenovo online store, Amazon US, etc…) and Facebook has stated that “it won’t replenish them”.

But at the presentation of the latest Samsung Note 10, for the first time after the Note 4, Samsung has dropped support for Gear VR in its latest flagship device. And i ts 2021+ timeline for XR makes me wonder if Huawei plans to release its headset around that date … that is more or less the same that we predict for Apple glasses.

For sure the announcement at FC and the release date in 2021 have been studied to put some pressure on Apple , which seems to be the only rival to Facebook for what concerns the AR future.
