The Quest 2 is quite powerful and so Facebook has confirmed tha t in 2021 there won’t be the need for a Quest 2 Pro as some people were supposing. NVIDIA doubles down on Cloud Rendering and Omniverse at GTC 2021. On the client side, the system will become compatible with iOS devices, and a Magic Leap client has also been developed.

Regarding big brands, I expect Apple and Facebook still to wait a bit before releasing something, while Magic Leap will have to make its move to come out from the quicksands. It is standalone (as HoloLens and Magic Leap ) and has cameras through which it sees the environment. Anyway, all the analysis for tracking happens on the device and not on the cloud (obviously, latency would be enormous otherwise!). This is why in its Facebook Reality Labs, they are doing a lot of R&D on augmented reality.
