PlayStation VR has been the most successful headset until now (if we exclude the crappy mobile viewers), but now it is pretty dated and people were wondering what Sony was going to do. Some people started to think that Sony could have abandoned VR.

In total, I counted something like 32 games, which is ok to start with, but then Sony should be fast in collecting more content to not make the PSVR2 players get bored fast for the lack of playable games. But still, the fact that all the PSVR 1 content won’t be available for the new headset gives Sony a good challenge on the content side.

I’m trying to keep expectations in place not because I want to be negative about VR (I’m a strong believer in the tech), but because in the past I’ve already seen that trend of setting unrealistic expectations and then writing “VR is dead” the day after when the market of course haven’t reached those results.

I can’t guarantee that these predictions will come out to be true (I always joke about the fact that I miss many of the predictions about Meta/Oculus), but I think they will be worth reading anyway to understand what can be the trends to look for in this new year. GENERAL TRENDS. I think the metaverse will follow a similar trend.

Image by Sony). Sony believes in VR, and we definitely believe at some point in the future, VR will represent a meaningful component of interactive entertainment. This is coherent also with the fact that Sony didn’t want to launch the PS5 and PSVR2 together, but we hoped for a shorter delay between one and the other.

My favorite ones have been: Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed that the next PSVR headset will be called PSVR 2 and will feature 2K x 2K per eye, up to 120 Hz framerate, and 110° FOV. I’ve already started seeing this trend for the M-word. Cooking Simulator VR is the best VR game of 2021 on SteamVR. What a true pity.

And Sony will give a “Sneak peek” of PSVR 2 games at its upcoming State Of Play event on June 2nd at 3 PM PT. It seems that Sony is hoping for a Q4 release in time for the holidays, but analyst Ming-Chi Kuo thinks that delays will bring the release to Q1 2023. We don’t know much about this upcoming content, though. Other news.
