Epic Games releases Unreal Engine 5. Epic Games has finally released the latest iteration of its popular game engine: Unreal Engine 5. This means that while great, Unreal Engine 5 is not disruptive for us VR users and developers, yet. As a Unity developer, I am a bit envious of all of this. Top news of the week.

I remember many people laughing at me when we of New Technology Walkers released a fitness game for the Vive Focus Plus ( HitMotion: Reloaded ) because they said it was a big and overpriced headset. What is interesting for us is the last line “adoption and support of ARKit features and future VR features into Unreal Engine by their XR team”.

It will have tools for building for it, and aside from the usual Apple tools, developers can use Unity to create content for it. Terms Tim Cook has clearly called the technology “Augmented Reality”, so Apple did not invent any fancy names for it. Which is good news. It’s so high that most people can’t afford it.

Coronavirus is back in Italy and from yesterday we’re having new restrictions like a night curfew, some kind of shops closed, etc… I hope that you and the people you love are safe. This year, I’m just watching the conference from home The conference has been interesting, and it has been the usual mix of technology and politics.

This weekend I’ve also organized together with SIDI a big VR workshop on new technologies (XR, AI, neural links, etc…). StageCraft is a new technology for shooting films.
