A new FCC listing appears for an HTC Vive headset. And in fact, a new request to FCC for a new device has arrived from HTC. FCC certifications are requested before releasing an electronic device in the US (to certify that it is safe to be used), so this is a clear sign that HTC is going to release a new headset soon.

HTC is set to reveal its new VIVE Mars CamTrack solution at the SIGGRAPH 2022 in Vancouver, Canada, where it will showcase the immersive production tool with Departure Lounge and Arcturus, it was revealed on Tuesday. HTC releases eye and face tracking for Vive Focus 3. HTC doesn’t want to lose the VR train, so it has just found a creative way of competing with Meta Quest Pro. The eye tracker, instead, can be attached as a magnetic insert in the internal part of the device, and HTC claims it’s accurate to within 0.5°~1.1°

The newly revealed design differs from the most recent prototype by doing away with the rigid plastic wrap-around piece (as on the right), and opting for a head strap and cable-management system that appears to be similar to the HTC Vive’s.

Otherwise, now the situation is more or less like before, with the exception of some places where there are still some Oculus devices in stock (for instance in Japan and Taiwan). The VR route is instead being pursued by HTC (with its VEC event happening soon) and IEEE. Who knows…. Very good news for all us Unity VR developers.
