The HTC Vive Pro page on Amazon US. Of course, these are US prices : here in Italy, the headset only costs €879 and all other bundles are more expensive because of taxes (damn taxes). But f rom a business side, this is most probably the right price to fulfill its strategy. rating is due to the high price.

But the rumors in the past weeks highlighted that the situation of this device is very confusing: Google doesn’t have a clear XR strategy and this confusion also led some key engineers to leave the company. If you add VAT, in Italy it will cost €600. The Quest 3 is also going to be released at $500. At least in the first year.

As for Meta, while he appreciated the efforts of the people working there, he said that doesn’t agree much with its strategy. Regarding the Quest line, he said that Meta pursued a low-price strategy too early, even before the device’s value could be perceived by people. Anyway, in these two weeks, even with some difficulties, I’ve managed to work quite at the same pace that I had in Italy , and we are going full speed ahead in improving the platform (some news about it is coming very soon…). While still in Italy, I verified that Microsoft Teams, Unity, and Github were accessible from China.

I’m personally a bit confused by Bytedance’s strategy. More info Vive discontinues Facial Tracker HTC has discontinued the Facial Tracker, the face-tracking device that worked with various PC VR headsets. May it be something that HTC is going to announce at CES?

Inflation here in Italy is ramping up, and the impression I have is that we are entering into a recession phase. I suggest everyone consider the possibility of harder times coming when defining the strategy of his own company. HTC releases its “metaverse phone”. We are still waiting for in-device tools, though.
