Meta's Head of AR Glasses Hardware claims they give the same "Oh my God, wow! Kalinowski was previously the Head of VR Hardware at Oculus for the consumer Oculus Rift, Oculus Touch, Oculus Go, Rift S, Oculus Quest, Quest 2, and Quest Pro. I can't believe this!" reaction as the original Oculus Rift.

Two weeks ago, I had a fantastic trip to Taiwan together with my Chinese assistant Miss S. In this series of articles, I want to talk about my experience there , giving you some highlights about the hardware I tried, the companies I met, etc… I want to let you feel as if you did this VR travel with me. The biggest gorillas in the room are the covert augmented reality company Magic Leap, which raised almost $800M in February (bringing its total funding to $1.4B), and the VR live-streaming company NextVR, which raised $80M in August (which brings its total funding to over $115M).

A DigiTimes Taiwan report (via MacRumors ) now suggests that Apple has disbanded the team behind it, effectively putting its consumer AR device on hold. For instance, there are lots of new headsets being released by hardware companies: just in the last year, there have been the Oculus Quest & Rift S , HTC Vive Focus Plus , HP Reverb , Valve Index , Acer OJO 500, and HoloLens 2 … just to mention the most popular ones. Try to spare money whenever you can. The market is not there yet.

The idea of Leap Motion is going against the current trend of augmented reality glasses, that is mostly based on expensive devices that have closed ecosystems (e.g. HoloLens or Magic Leap One ), but to create a headset that is: Affordable; Completely open, both from a software and hardware standpoint.
