That means glasses using it will have to be assembled inside the US, significantly raising the production cost, despite most of the manufacturing and components coming from China and Taiwan. LCoS isn't a new technology, it has been used in movie projectors since the 90s as well as in AR products like HoloLens 1 and Magic Leap 2.

The biggest gorillas in the room are the covert augmented reality company Magic Leap, which raised almost $800M in February (bringing its total funding to $1.4B), and the VR live-streaming company NextVR, which raised $80M in August (which brings its total funding to over $115M).

Magic Leap. For a secretive company, we can learn a lot about Magic Leap from their patent filings and acquisitions, namely that they launched without a clear path to executing their vision.
