Unluckily, probably I won’t be able to get the Apple Vision Pro, first of all, because I’m in Italy, and second because it would be a pretty hefty investment for me to buy a Vision Pro and a Mac to develop for it. Qualcomm has officially said that this is the chipset that the upcoming Samsung headset is going to employ.

Italy won the Tennis Davis Cup, and that was pretty cool to see (the match between Sinner and Djokovic was just incredible). But it’s not only hardware… all the stores are giving discounts, too. And talking about “cool” things (pun intended), today I’m traveling to Helsinki, Finland, where I hope to have a great time at MatchXR.

The main one regards the 4 devices we were waiting for this year , which in our opinion should have changed everything: Quest 3, Apple Vision Pro, Google-Samsung Headset, and PSVR 2. Google and Samsung Prototype of the Samsung XR headset. If you add VAT, in Italy it will cost €600. Long story short: things are not good.

So the next 2–3 weeks are going to be crazy for me, so sorry if I will make the comments on the newsletter a bit shorter than usual. On the personal side, I’m a bit devasted by the flood that happened in central Italy. Anyway, it had its share of problems: it was kinda messy and also very heavy for the hardware of the computer to run.

Poised to arrive around January 2023, it is considered by many the savior of XR, the hardware that will show the real possibilities of immersive realities and make finally VR mainstream. I have almost no friends here in Italy with Apple TV. Think about ARKit. But… dominating a sector doesn’t mean making it mainstream.

The shutdown of its main XR hardware project makes us all think that Google will try to do in XR what it is already doing with smartphones: become the software platform that many hardware OEMs use. I’m back in Italy! It’s not much, but if this data is starting to surface, probably very soon we’ll discover more info about it via patents or hardware certification websites. But now some data about it is starting to be found. The model should be codenamed “SM-I120” and its battery has just been certificated in South Korea.
