Microsoft, which apparently produces one of the best-performing augmented reality headsets on the market (HoloLens), is buying a video game production company Blizzard for a frightening amount of money: 68 billion dollars. Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) for AR Headsets. There was no marketable product at the time of the acquisition.

OMG, it’s almost 3 years that I write these roundups… the first week peek was exclusive for my blog subscribers and it featured as best news the release of Google Blocks and in the other news something about Samsung Gear VR… how much time has passed since then! So many memories… who was there already in VR with me? We’ll see….

With a lot of sadness, I’m here watching the photos and the videos of WCVRI , the big Chinese conference about VR that is held every year in Nanchang. And while China always moves chaotically, I think that the push of the government is helping its VR companies. Facebook and Microsoft publish two interesting research projects for VR.

Imagine a Chinese school (that are forced by the government to use VR) how much money can save by buying 300 3DOF headsets instead of 300 6DOF ones (the answer is: around $100K ). H266 video standard can pave the way to 8K video streaming. 266/Versatile Video Coding (VVC). Not a great evolution from Microsoft.
