Alvin Wang Graylin is the China President of Vive at HTC, and I had a chance to talk with him at CES this year about what’s happening in China. The VR market in China is growing, and there is a lot more optimism for technological adoption and enthusiasm for having VR arcade experiences.

The damn Coronavirus is impacting the lives of many people, and I’m incredibly sad about what is happening especially in China, with millions of people quarantined and thousands of dead. While Oculus is getting all the glory for the Quest, its competitors are not sleeping. At WCVRI, China shows its strategic interest for VR. And while China always moves chaotically, I think that the push of the government is helping its VR companies. Notwithstanding all this hate, the Oculus Quest 2 is selling very well.

To make you understand how these features are incredible, Qualcomm has stated that “the [XR2] reference design has 2x the CPU and GPU performance, 4x more video bandwidth, 6x higher resolution and 11x AI improvement compared to our current widely adopted XR platform [the Oculus Quest ]”. At Facebook Connect this week , Facebook has: Released the powerful Oculus Quest 2 , powered by Snapdragon XR2, and with a 4K display. While this decision was very smart on the business side because the major headset manufacturers were already building their hands tracking solutions (e.g. Image by Sony).

I have to say it also reminds me a bit of the pancake headset just announced by Skyworth , but this doesn’t surprise me much, because in China many headsets have similarities because they are all made by Goertek, in the end. Anyway, don’t misunderstand me… it is very small and lightweight. This was a much awaited feature.
