Digital workflow streaming platform Alteon announced on Monday it had opened support for virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) creative projects. Revealed after the announcement of Apple’s Reality Pro headset, the new offering will allow users to store, collaborate, and preview a host of 3D formats.

But I would wait to rejoice from it: VR requires a very short motion-to-photon latency, and as of today no cloud rendering service can offer such low latency in every possible location of the user. Today it’s a great day for virtual reality: at WCVRI conference, HTC has just announced a kit to provide 6 DOF controllers for Vive Focus and has showcased a hands-tracking technology for the Vive Pro ! The city is full of references to Virtual Reality, and so it is like a paradise for us VR enthusiasts.

Both tools offer virtual reality experiences, with powerful graphics and immersive solutions like hand tracking. It costs almost double the predecessor’s price, though it’s still much cheaper than other MR headsets, like the Apple Vision Pro. Of course, there are some significant differences to consider, too.

Headsets with waveguides are retailing in the $3000 to $5000 range. The XR visual processing pipeline is both compute intensive and latency sensitive. What about Apple Glass? I was very critical of this approach with the Apple Watch?—?it However, current birdbath display XR viewers are in the $400 to $500 range.
