After having announced some of the features and the price just before the launch of the Apple Vision Pro, now the company formerly known as Facebook is already working towards the launch of the device. Thanks to Hexa, Amazon can so show the 3D model of the items it is selling , and also provide virtual try-on features.

I’m back to Italy after my trip to Helsinki! It is relevant that for the first time, a Varjo headset is adding integrated audio and integrated controllers. But things on the consumers’ side may not be going as well: according to some data scrapped from Amazon, the Quest 2 outsold the Quest 3 by a factor of 3:1 in the last 30 days.

After a few days where we thought we were all living in a big oven, here in Italy we’re having the first taste of Autumn, with the temperatures going down and a lot of rain falling from the sky. The unboxing shows that the device has a very simple packaging, which includes both the headset and the controllers.

Facebook already had full control of my Oculus and Facebook accounts, so it had already my XR data. That’s why Avi Bar-Zeev in a tweet on this topic talked about “the illusion of control” of our data : actually, Facebook already had it all. Zuckerberg wrote in a letter some years ago that he wants full control of the XR platform.

Only a minimum of the data should be shared with the online servers and most of them should be handled locally; the applications and the communications should be secure; the user must have all the control among what data of his/hers gets shared and what not. Apple way be working on a VR headset. Amazon acquires Umbra.

The damn coronavirus continues to impact all our lives: the fact that many countries are applying restrictions on flights to and from Italy is, for example, creating various nuisances to my job. Is this really what Apple wants? (Thanks Robert Scoble for this news!). Coronavirus impacts headsets production and kills F8 and GDC.
