Oculus has been the king of standalones , because it is selling devices at very low prices that offer great content.

The Oculus Quest 2 is selling incredibly well because it offers the right combination of affordable price, good hardware, and a good software ecosystem. Not to mention the millions spent on marketing , especially in the US (Oculus was one of the sponsors of NBA, for instance). The Quest will still be the king. The rise of enterprise.

You can already use Valve’s tools to create custom maps for the game. Waiting until now would mean that next VR game by Valve would come out in 2024–2025… do you really think they don’t want to make the ecosystem to grow now? Oculus Quest is available again in some countries. Oculus rolls out runtime v15 for Quest.

As I’m thinking back to it now, this was actually on HTC VIVE — first gen, which was only maybe 3, 4 years ago now — and I was so impressed with the first generation of hardware that I was like, “well, this is ready for prime time.” And I see that right now, Oculus is filling that void.
