We have no clue of when it will be released, but if you remember, last week Youtuber Eric For President revealed that some sources of his talk about a September reveal for the “VR hardware we want” from Facebook. It seems that so the Quest 2 Pro will be at least unveiled during the next Facebook Connect , for a potential launch in 2022.

It makes sense for Samsung, which is great in manufacturing hardware, to partner with Microsoft , that is doing a good job in creating a platform for XR, to compete with the other companies. Apple is entering the XR field, and Facebook is currently dominating the VR market. It will be interesting to see how it will evolve over time.

My bet is that Apple will tease its glasses in 2021 and maybe launch them in 2022, or for holidays 2021 (it is just a speculation though, Apple never said it was going to release smartglasses). Besides them, there are also other frameworks that can help WebXR developers: some WebXR exporters for Unity projects and also Amazon Sumerian.

I think that we’ll have more info at OC7, with maybe a launch in 2021/2022. In the meantime, even HTC that was safe until now is having troubles in manufacturing the external tracking faceplate , whose release date will be delayed. Oculus has made its GDC announcements. New iPad Pro will feature a LIDAR sensor. It seems fun.
