This would have happened on May 2019, in the same period when Apple’s senior manager of prototype development Avi Bar-Zeev left the company. Oculus is working on 2nd gen VR. Mark Zuckerberg told that Oculus Quest closed the first generation of VR and so Oculus is now working on its second generation. Other relevant news.

In support of the event, our team donated Leap Motion Controllers. Our CTO David Holz and engineer/ AR tennis champion Jonathon Selstad joined the workshop, along with former Leap Motion engineer Adam Munich. He had experience building homebrew data gloves and mocap systems for years before discovering Leap Motion.

I think that Gartner was not referring to the consumer market, where VR is still unripe (even if devices like the Oculus Quest and the Vive Focus Plus are helping it in becoming more widespread), but at the B2B one, where VR is already helping companies to spare money (e.g. Gartner Hype Cycle 2019. This doesn’t look like Oculus Quest” and in the text puts a link to an Imgur album with 4 photos featuring various half-assembled VR headsets. Jokes apart, since it is “just” an evolution of first gen, maybe we’ll be able to see some announcement in 2019 and release in 2019-2020. We’ll see.

But the Daydream project never took off, and its competitor Gear VR, thanks to Oculus money and branding has always performed better. VR-2 Pro adds an integrated Leap Motion and a 10m cable. This week has been the week of the Oculus Connect 6 , the biggest yearly event by Oculus where the VR company announces all its most important news, both on hardware and software sides. Oculus Link. You can even access to Oculus Home and Dash. Oculus Link will be available in beta in November 2019.
