We were using VR not as a thing to study in and of itself, but we were using it as a tool to run more rigorous social psych studies. In 2003 I was lucky enough to see a job that was advertised at Stanford in the department of communications. We all think about VR as a medium today, but in 1999 or 2003, not so much.
