At least from the outside, it appears Microsoft isn’t actively competing for a seat at the XR table, which is fairly odd coming from a company that pioneered enterprise AR while simultaneously wrangling some of its top OEM partners to make a fleet of PC VR headsets for consumers in 2017. If Microsoft goes in half-cocked, maybe.

It was really interesting to see Microsoft pivot towards enterprise with the HoloLens and I think it was absolutely the right move for them to make Click To Tweet. For starters, they’re based in Oregon as opposed to Silicon Valley.

As I always say about my predictions, I’m not sure they will turn out to be true (and honestly, many times this hasn’t happened), but for sure they identify some trends to keep an eye on. GENERAL TRENDS. I think that in 2022 we’ll mostly see in AR the growth of the same trends that we saw in the second half of 2021.

And this year, we’ll see further growth of this trend, which has still a big untapped potential: many new items to try-before-you-buy, new features available for filters, new popular ecosystems (like WeChat) that are going to adopt it properly. What will see a decreasing trend is everything that is about people going outside.
