While the spotlight is all on Oculus and its Quest, actually Pico and HTC are evolving their hardware and software offerings without almost no one talking about it. I’ve made a nice Youtube video with me saying random stuff and exploring the Vive Hand Tracking SDK at first in Unity and then in action using my hands in VR.

HTC is set to reveal its new VIVE Mars CamTrack solution at the SIGGRAPH 2022 in Vancouver, Canada, where it will showcase the immersive production tool with Departure Lounge and Arcturus, it was revealed on Tuesday. The HTC Vive should not exist. For a troubled company that’s spent much of the past few years making losses instead of profits, the niche and expensive VR market is the last place HTC is going to make a quick buck. And yet here we are, with the smartphone maker and Valve seemingly in it for the long haul. Expected Expense.

Otherwise, now the situation is more or less like before, with the exception of some places where there are still some Oculus devices in stock (for instance in Japan and Taiwan). The VR route is instead being pursued by HTC (with its VEC event happening soon) and IEEE. Unity’s HDRP is now VR-compatible.
