Today it’s a great day for virtual reality: at WCVRI conference, HTC has just announced a kit to provide 6 DOF controllers for Vive Focus and has showcased a hands-tracking technology for the Vive Pro ! We don’t know if the software solution will continue its development on a parallel road, though.

You probably have heard about Leap Motion’s Project North Star , that should be able to offer people affordable augmented reality. Notice a Leap Motion sensor installed on top of it. Project North Star is an opensource augmented reality headset that Leap Motion has designed and gifted to the community.

Google makes Tilt Brush opensource. Google has just announced that the VR painting program Tilt Brush has been put opensource on GitHub. The bad news is that this means that Google has abandoned it. Google is becoming well-known for abandoning the interesting project it creates. This is both bad and good news.

With 25,000 new developers registered since August, there are now over 150,000 developers in more than 186 countries building with Leap Motion technology. This move shows that Somnium doesn’t only want to focus on its software, but it also wants to build a full ecosystem encompassing hardware and software. Google is still into XR. Even if Google is quite silent about AR and VR lately , the company is still into immersive technologies.
