As a long-time AR enthusiast, and one of the first to have tried Google Glass in Italy, I have to admit that I will consider AR mainstream only when it will be on glasses that we will wear all day , when we’ll live in a completely shared mixed reality world (the AR Cloud). Or is it just a talk about glasses?

I’d say that through at least 2022, the enterprise will account for the majority of augmented and mixed reality headsets like Hololens and Magic Leap. I think the three-degrees-of-freedom [3Dof] sets — like the Go and the Samsung Gear VR before it — are very well-suited for video viewing, that sort of thing.

Regarding big brands, I expect Apple and Facebook still to wait a bit before releasing something, while Magic Leap will have to make its move to come out from the quicksands. Apple is constantly improving its ARKit solution, adding always more features, and also Google is (slowly) updating ARCore. If they will prove to be successful, I can imagine also other brands entering the field , like Samsung (that until some years ago was interested in hybrid headsets) or some Chinese brands like Shadow Creator.
