Today it’s a great day for virtual reality: at WCVRI conference, HTC has just announced a kit to provide 6 DOF controllers for Vive Focus and has showcased a hands-tracking technology for the Vive Pro ! 6 DOF Controllers for Vive Focus. In short: the Vive Focus will finally have two 6 DOF controllers.

The Reverb was already a very good headset (as you can read in my hands-on impressions ) with good comfort and an astonishing resolution, but it had some problems with the display (mura, red smearing) and with the controllers (classical mediocre WMR tracking). Preorders are open now in the US, and will open worldwide in June/July.

Facebook is investing billions for hardware creation, and it is going to move 4,000 employes working on AR hardware in a new venue just built in California. On the last day, I tried many interesting technologies, but I selected two for this summary, which are the first two that I’ve tried: the new Leap Motion Controller by Ultraleap and the AR technology by LetinAR. All the people that were working on AR/VR inside Facebook now have a new group they belong to: “Facebook Reality Labs”. This was the previous name of the AR/VR research division guided by Abrash, that now gets rebranded as “FRL Research”. There’s also a reference to a whiteboard that you can use together in AR/VR and in real life.

I’ve used Google search to find all the pages with references to Del Mar in the Oculus website, and all the docs are identical to the previous versions.
