This trend will continue in 2021 : the new LiDAR sensor, which is rumored to be installed in all future iPhones, will for sure be copied also by Android phones (Samsung?) There are vaiours solutions to also export Unity XR projects to the web (Image by Mozilla). and I can expect more realistic filters with depth occlusion to come soon.

Of course, there are some little issues, like for instance: There is a little latency for positional tracking and tracking of controllers (even if it is hardly noticeable); Sometimes you can spot some artifacts , especially if you move very fast; The images do not appear as crisp as on the Rift S , because of the compression stuff.

Of course, this would have been a much bigger deal in a world before Quest Pro and Quest 3, which have lenses with an eyebox so wide that it doesn’t really matter if your IPD is set slightly wrong. Given this only happens in Unity Full Space apps, I suspect this can be solved in future software.

Of course, the device that is reaching (or has already reached) this magical number is the Oculus Quest 2 , which has literally taken VR out of its quicksands, becoming the first mainstream device. Another brand I’m very curious about is Samsung : sooner or later, it should announce something, either in VR or in AR.

The same Unity plugin is able to serve all Oculus devices and this helps a lot in developing cross-platform titles. The SDK is also very well documented and it is easy to find the solution to your problems also in Oculus and Unity forums since the Oculus dev community is far from being little.
