I hope that a future rumor clarifies a bit more what is Facebook’s strategy. (Thanks Alessio Palumbo for the tip!). This startup just exited from stealth mode, is like Google Maps but for the interior of shopping centers, offices, and other closed environments. 3D environment scans are in 2020 what pictures were in 2010.

So things like Uber or Google Maps and directions were native to the phone, that were kind of useless on the PC. So that was a problem that, in the past, could only be solved with expensive depth cameras or Google Street View-style cars, or take a thousand photos and wait a day for it all to be processed. 2010, we had wearable technologies like the Fitbits, the Apple Watch, so forth and so on. When you walk into a Best Buy’s or you walk into any retailer, they’re selling you the Amazon Echo and they’re selling you the Google Home, where you ask a question, it plays a video. And in the 90s we had the laptops.
